The Process of Therapy

Step 1

DISCOVERY CALL

This initial conversation is a crucial first step to understanding your needs and goals.  During the discovery call, we'll discuss your concerns, review your desired outcomes, and answer any questions you have about the therapeutic process.  This call allows you to get to know our approach and determine if working together is a good fit for your unique needs.

Step 2

INITIAL SESSION

Following the discovery call, your first session will serve as a deep dive into your current experiences.  We'll explore the challenges you're facing, discuss your history, and develop a shared understanding of your personal narrative.  This session will be an opportunity to build rapport and establish the therapeutic framework that will guide our work together.

Step 3

ONGOING SESSIONS

We begin with grounding techniques and mindfulness exercises to cultivate a sense of calm & self-awareness. This allows you to connect with your inner resources & creates a safe space for exploration. I incorporate inner child healing work to address any unresolved emotional wounds, allowing you to explore past experiences in a supportive environment, fostering emotional regulation, &  promoting personal growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • While both coaching and therapy aim to support personal growth, they differ in their approach. Coaching focuses on achieving specific goals and developing strategies for success in various life areas.  Therapy, on the other hand, addresses underlying emotional patterns, experiences, and challenges that might be hindering overall well-being.  We often find that these approaches can complement each other, and we can discuss whether coaching or therapy (or a combination of both) might be best suited for your needs.

  • The duration of therapy varies significantly depending on individual needs and goals.  Some individuals may find that a few sessions are sufficient to address a specific issue, while others may benefit from ongoing support for more extended periods.  We'll work with you to establish a realistic and achievable treatment plan, and discuss timelines during our initial consultation.

  • It's completely understandable to have questions and concerns before starting therapy.  Our initial discovery call is designed as a safe space to explore your needs and concerns.  You can ask any questions you have about the process, our approach, and how therapy might benefit you. Iā€™m here to help you feel comfortable and confident in your decision.  If it turns out therapy isn't the right fit at this time, I can offer referrals to other resources that might be more suitable.

  • I offer 50-minute individual psychotherapy sessions for $150 per session and 60-minute couples counseling sessions for $225. I do not currently accept insurance, but can provide a superbill that can be submitted to insurance providers for reimbursement. If cost is a barrier, I do offer limited sliding scale slots.

Although weekly therapy is suggested for optimal productivity during sessions, I also work with a number of clients attending biweekly or even monthly sessions. We can work together to come up with a system that best works for you and your schedule.

The change that therapy promises is a slow and steady process, not a single instance of dramatic transformation. For that reason, it is suggested to think of it as a long-term investment rather than a single or recurring purchase.
